LAMBS MAKE SOLID START TO PRE-SEASON AGAINST MANSFIELD
Tamworth kicked off their pre-season with a 1-1 draw with League 2 club Mansfield Town. New signing Ross Dyer netted first for The Lambs from another summer import Danny Newton’s cross to put his new side ahead against his old club. Despite the good start from Andy Morrell’s men, Mansfield grew as the first half progressed. Tamworth did hold out until half time but 10 minutes into the second period and the visitors had levelled thanks to Nathan Thomas. Numerous changes by both side in the second 45 meant play stagnated somewhat and the game finished 1-1 with substitute goalkeeper Raaj Gill having to make a late save to gain his team a result.

TRIO JOIN PITMEN
Rob Smith has grabbed the signatures of three new players at Hednesford ahead of their first pre-season tie with Wrexham. Kyle Morrison joins from Wolverhampton’s academy after spending a loan spell at Alvechurch. The 19 year-old can either play centre-back or as a right full back. Luke Benbow joins from Stourbridge after netting 50 times over three seasons. The striker came through the ranks at Birmingham City before joining Glen Hoddle’s Football Academy in Spain after a little detour around the non-league scene. Smith also attained the services of Ahmed Obeng (pictured left) from Kidderminster Harriers after making ten appearances and netting once from the striker role.

TOMASSEN JOINS TAMWORTH AS JACKSON DEPARTS
Steve Tomassen has put pen to paper at Tamworth in time for pre-season which started on Saturday. Tomassen arrives from Wrexham after progressing through their centre of excellence. The 21 year-old will replace Kayden Jackson as he goes the opposite way as part of the deal. Manager Andy Morrell stated ““I’ve known Steve for a while and know exactly what he will bring to the club, “He’s another young lad with hunger who has played a lot of games at a higher level despite his tender years. “He can play in a number of different positions and has a fantastic attitude. He will certainly add something to us and it’s another important signing for us.”

ANOTHER EX-PITMAN JOINS TAMWORTH
Andy Morrell has snapped up 25 year-old Elliott Durrell meaning he is the third player to join the Lambs since the turn of the summer. Once of Hednesford, Durrell spent a spell at Wrexham before being released and captured by Tamworth. “I’m really pleased to have signed for Tamworth,” he said. “As soon as I knew the club were interested in me, I was keen to come here and link up with Andy Morrell again.
I can really relate to him and the chance to work together again was very appealing. This is a big club in the wrong League and my aim is to help them get back to where they belong”
TAMWORTH HAVE “A GOOD BALANCE”
Assistant manager of Tamworth Mike Fowler has stated how his close relationship with manager Andy Morell creates a “good foundation” for the club. The duo met when Crystal Palace loaned Fowler out to Wrexham over a decade ago and have kept in close contact ever since. “I speak to Andy four or five times each day,” said Fowler, “you have to have that close working relationship. Andy is a doer just like myself; when we see something that needs to be improved, we will get to work on it quickly. “There is a good balance between us”. Fowler remained positive about the upcoming season saying “I’m looking forward to pre-season. It’s an opportunity to lay some foundations and put some good preparation in with the lads. “It’s the chance for us to get our ideas across in a structured and correct way as we get ready for the challenges that lie ahead. He continued; “The Chairman and Directors are excited by what is happening here. The whole club is progressing, but we won’t lose sight of our main objectives and that is to put out a winning team that will give the supporters something to shout about.”

DYER JOINS LAMBS
Striker Ross Dyer has agreed to move to Tamworth from Halifax. The 27 year-old spent a loan spell at Telford last season and made 14 appearances before being shown the door by his parent club. Dyer came through the ranks at close rivals Hednesford Town and stayed on until 2010 before moving to Forest Green Rovers where the forward 5 goals in 31 appearances. Speaking in an interview upon his arrival Dyer said “I am absolutely buzzing to sign for Tamworth, “I’ve spoken to a number of local clubs, but coming here was a no-brainer for me.” Dyer hopes to start to play more regular football explaining “There is so much potential here and from a personal point of view, it is important that I am enjoying my football again and getting regular games and goals under my belt.”

JAMES AND ADAMS MAKE HEDNESFORD SWITCH
Jon Adams and Tom James, despite pledging his loyalty to Tamworth, have both moved to Hednesford from The Lambs. James was captured by Watford early on in his career before being loaned out to several non-league sides during his spell at Vicarage Road. James made the move to Tamworth and featured in both of their wins against Hednesford this year. Adams is not a strange face to manager Rob Smith after they worked together at AFC Telford United during his reign there. The 30 year-old then left to join Tamworth for a year and now has signed for The Pitmen becoming the latest addition to Smith’s promotion-pushing squad.
JAMES TO REMAIN A LAMB
Left-back Tom James has committed his future to the club despite being linked away from Tamworth. The former Watford man stated "I love it at Tamworth and want to be a part of things there next year, working with Andy Morrell, I thought we had a great campaign in the end and I want the same again next season” The defender played 36 games at full-back this season admitting himself he had a steady campaign but says he doesn’t want to be in ‘limbo’. "I would have liked to have been able to sign a deal because then you can relax and concentrate on getting ready for the season”, said James. "I will work my socks off and hopefully do enough to get offered something. I am certainly prepared to work for it." He revealed end of season talks with gaffer Andy Morrell indicated he only needs to improve on his consistent rate of ‘seven out of ten’ performances to cement his position saying "Hopefully I can have the chance to do that."
