STONE DOMINOES SET FOR A RETURN
AFTER INITIALLY DISBANDING, Stone Dominoes could be on course for a return to league football. The news was announced in January this year, prompting excitement among non-league followers in Staffordshire.
The first team dissolved, after only winning 3 games and losing 35, in the 2012-13 season but with the lower age groups still remain alive and running. Wellbeing Park has been the venue of many a final with the pitches being one of the best in the county, and soon the first team will grace the turf once again.
Kyle Adams and Dom Ryder are both set to share the manager’s role after a chance meeting with club secretary Sharon Armstrong a few months back. Despite all the hype around the news both Adams and Ryder remain realistic of the up-coming season. “We're aware that success won't come overnight but myself and Dom believe in our own ability and are willing to put in the work to build a successful side” stated Adams. “It's a case of a total re-build so to speak and starting afresh with a clean slate to build something for the future”
Ryder also explained, “In terms of the squad, we are optimistic as we have a core of players committed to us who we have worked with before, and we also have quite an interest in the open trials day we are holding on Saturday 27th June from which we will choose the squad to go forward with”, going on to say “As for the expectations for the season, we want to win as many games as we can during the first campaign, see where that takes us, and hopefully finish towards the right end of the table”
The partnership of 8 years (after first meeting on a coaching course) gives the team an advantage over all the other sides in the league as they will look to bring their experiences together of their three years at Port Vale and Norton United where the duo spent four years, dealing with success, in winning the cup and gaining promotion, and also the tougher times at the wrong end of the table trying to avoid the drop
