LEEK THRASH ROCESTER WHISLT UNVIELING 11TH SIGNING

Leek Town romped to the Hutchinson Memorial Trophy after demolishing Rocester 4-0 after revealing the club’s latest signing. Ryan Duffy-McGirr completed a scholarship in the USA after coming through the Sheffield Wednesday centre of excellence before spending a short spell at Alfreton Town. As for the match, Rocester offered very little compared to Leek who dominated from the first to last minute. Rocester manager Mark Wilson looks to have a job on his hands next season as Casswell’s men go from strength to strength with all of his 11 summer signings.

NEW ADDITIONS PROVE DIVIDENS IN FIRST PRE-SEASON WIN FOR LEEK

Lee Casswell was left satisfied with his reshaped side as Leek triumphed 4-2 over West Didsbury & Chorlton last Saturday. The hosts took a foothold in the game to start with  and took the lead but Leek’s Naill Maguire equalized minutes later much to the pleasure of the travelling fans with Dan Shelley slotting a coolly taken penalty early in the second period. But the home side wouldn’t lie and cracked home a wicked volley prompting Casswell to make several switches in personnel. Substitute Nathan Whitehead slid Leek back in front and Maguire made sure of the win as he ended the game with a brace. The score finished 4-2 with many positives to be taken from the match as they march over to Rocester in their second friendly of the summer.

BLUES FACE PREMIER OUTFIT IN CUP TIE

The Integro League Cup made its first draw of the new season on Friday and Leek Town were drawn a home fixture against Premier Division side Halesowen Town. Halesowen finished 11th in the top flight last year and will prove a tough test to Lee Casswell’s side.

DRASTIC CHANGES AT LEEK

Leek Town have beckoned 8 new players in the past week to join Leek Town for the 2015/16 season. Goalkeeper Alex Langbridge has made his way over from Uttoxeter Town to challenge earlier signing Chris Martin in between the sticks. Langbridge had been watched by both Burton Albion and Gresley but manager Lee Casswell has managed to convince the 23 year-old that Leek ought to be where he calls home. Doug Price who was also released by Uttoxeter Town has also joined the squad. Price had once been a member of Port Vale’s academy system. Liam Sowter follows suit from Uttoxeter as he tries to break into the midfield role. 25 year-old James Curley has played around the non-league Staffordshire scene for the likes of Kidsgrove Athletic and has also been on the books of Stoke City. Curley netted 30 times for Uttoxeter Town last campaign. 22 year-old winger Matt Redshaw also arrives from Uttoxeter after previously playing for Rocester. Striker Nathan Whitehead joins from Rainworth as Dan Brown arrives from Rocester as they look to head the Leek attacking line. Sam Bradbury raises the tally to a total of 10 players coming through the Harrison Park doors with the big question will be whether all of them can gel together to bring success to Casswell’s side.

LEEK CAPTURE MARTIN

Lee Casswell has named goalkeeper Chris Martin as his first signing of the season. Martin helped Mickleover Sports to the title last campaign and his move is highly regarded by the Leek faithful. The 25 year-old started off his career at Port Vale making over 70 appearances for the first team before making the switch to Ilkeston in 2012. Casswell went on to reveal that this wasn’t the first time he tried to sign the goalkeeper. "I've spoken to Chris before, but for one reason or another, the move didn't happen, but I'm delighted to have him here at Harrison Park now" Casswell explained. "I rated him as the best in the league last season and included him in my league team of the year.” The Leek boss admitted it was nice to have “a bit of good news for a change".
