NEWCASTLE TOWN 0-1 NORTHWICH VICTORIA
Newcastle narrowly were defeated by Division One North club Northwich Victoria by a goal to nil. Northwich penetrated the Newcastle back line and almost went ahead early on but for a headed clearance on the line by James Askey from a Reece Fishwick effort. The first period petered out into a dull drab as both teams looked forward to the half time whistle. The second half was much lively and a goal came 58 minutes in when Josh Amis slotted the ball away thanks to a major slip up by Castle defender Ricky Hill. Home goalkeeper Danny Read was kept busy throughout having to divert shots from Mike Roddy and Iain Howard away from his goal. The closest the hosts came was when Nortwich ‘keeper Dane Smith denied an Askey header rippling the visitors’ net. Andy Nicholls also came close but no breakthrough could be found as the final whistle blew at the Lyme Valley Stadium.

NEWCASTLE TOWN LEARN THREE CUP COMPETITION TIES
Newcastle Town have found out who they will face in all the cup competitions they are due to play this season. Town host two home matches in both the Emirates FA Cup Preliminary Round against the winner of Continental Star and Bolehall Swifts and the FA Trophy Preliminary Round where they face Spalding United of Evo-Stik Premier Division South. Castle will also play a tasty FA Youth Cup tie away at Leek Town, so all three could be considered as winnable games.

LENNON RE-JOINES NEWCASTLE TOWN
Michael Lennon has returned to the Newcastle Town outfit for a second spell after playing for Town almost a decade ago in 2006. Lennon, who joins from recently dissolved Norton United, admitted upon his arrival "In the end signing back at Newcastle was an easy decision. "I'm aware that we have lost some key players but the squad is looking good enough to challenge for promotion again" he added. "I am getting on a bit now but was still playing Conference North two seasons ago so I still feel I have a lot to offer.” The 34 year-old striker featured in Norton’s 5-0 mauling over Town last season and scored in the 2-2 New Year’s day tie later on in the season. "I played against Newcastle twice last year and was very impressed with them, especially the game at Norton.” He declared. "Hopefully this (the experience) will rub off and I can help the younger lads develop"
CAREY JOINS NEWCASTLE TOWN
Former Alsager man Callum Carey has joined Newcastle Town to take charge of the under 21’s. Carey has a UEFA B coach licence and a lot of experience from many other semi-professional clubs to take to the club. On arriving Carey said “I would like to thank Dave Dale and Gavin Appleby for the opportunity to be part of the Newcastle Under 21s (Reserves) coaching staff. I am thoroughly looking forward to be joining a club who are known locally to be orientated by youth development and progression. “I can't wait for the work to start now and be able to have an input to what has been a successful group of players after the recent Sentinel Cup and Shield wins, at U18s and U16s level respectively, but also look to help these players progress with the ultimate aim of representing the club at first team level."

“GOAL MADE MY SEASON” – BATE
Liam Bate was delighted with the impact he made in Newcastle Under 18’s 5-1 win over Meir KA this week in the Sentinel Cup. Bate came off the bench to net and set up a goal and declared his satisfaction in doing so. "I felt as though I was an impact player and my goal rallied the team and gave the mindset that this cup was ours and we could beat the other team. "But to score a great goal and then set up the other made my whole season and I'm so proud to have played for Newcastle Town" he stated. His goal came in the first half of extra time after the two teams remained deadlocked for the first 90 minutes. His scissor kick effort gave Newcastle the lead for the first time in the match before his side went on a rampage to net another 4 times. When asked about his goal Bate said “"I didn't really think to be honest, I just knew I wasn't going to do as well with heading the ball. I've done them in training quite often so when the chance arose, I took it." Newcastle went on to lift the trophy at the Britannia Stadium in front of the jubilant Town supporters.
